~~~~Poop and Peat~~~~ And A Few Other Garden Tips
As I was walking around my garden just before dusk, I had a idea to post about some 'Gardening Do's and Don'ts'.  I just put this picture first, cause it's pretty~
Okay.....here's the Poop and Peat of it all!  I always amend my soil before I plant anything (especially here in Florida where our soil can be so sandy).  I mix up a big ole container of Cow Manure and Peat Moss and work it deep into the soil...really helps!
Now here's quite a few "Don'ts"
Don't buy cheap garden hoses...they kink up on ya!  This makes me nuts...trying to wrangle the kinks out of the hose.  When I water....I want water!
In the same manner....don't buy cheap garden tools.  Just when your trying to plant your petunias, this can happen....not so much fun anymore!
This one's a double whammy....Don't buy cheap clippers in the first place.....Secondly, don't leave them out in the rain.  They won't cut a thing now!
Don't forget to clean up your work bench.  It should look as purty as the garden.
Likewise, don't leave your junk laying around after you've planted.....just gives hubby an opportunity to gripe at ya!
Don't forget to dead-head your roses......so you'll get more of these!
Don't forget to water your plants in pots frequently...it doesn't take long for this to happen!
Don't ya just wonder how this happened?  Especially since 'nobody' knows a thing about it!
Okay, so enough of the negatives...let's get onto some positives!
"DO'S"
Do compost your kitchen scraps and yard waste.....it's good for the environment and it makes ya feel good too!  I don't have a bin...I just dump stuff in the 'lower 40'.  LOOK...I have a couple a' tomato plants coming up!
Do save your garden rake heads...they make great trellis'!
Well, I think I'll call it a day now..
Happy Planting!
Blessings,
Susie
~~White Dish Obsession~~
It's getting more difficult to come up with White Wednesday 'themes'.  As I looked around my home today, what stood out the most were my white dishes.  So here we go:
This 'Friend' necklace was given to me by Shelley...I love it!
~Ironstone Love~
~ I need more butter pats~
~Love the aged ironstone...~
I love this scalloped ironstone bowl.  It holds a few pieces of stone fruit!
~ Inside my kitchen cabinets ~
If you remember, a while back, I was trying to do something with my funky square kitchen knobs.  Here's what I came up with...(I have 25 knobs in the kitchen alone!)
One of my favorite pieces of ironstone is this compote, which is currently keeping this 'real' nest together!
Platters to 'hold everything'!
Well that's all folks!  Be sure to head on over to see  Kathleen at Faded Charm to check out many more links for White Wednesday participants!
Rate My Space
Have you ever posted pics of your home on Rate My Space?  Well I posted the same pics that I had on my previous Blog post...and boy...did I get beat up about the 'slipcover thingy' on my coffee table!  Even though I stated that it was just temporary (brought in from the bedroom).....I mostly got hands down on the coffee table.
                                                                              A
Here's the pic of it in my bedroom.  I added the skirt (just tacked on) cause I wanted all white and neutrals in the bedroom.
.................................................
So, I removed the 'skirt' which exposed this antique trunk...not bad!  The top of the trunk is split into, so I still need to have a cover on it.  What do you think?
Here's my old coffee table.  I'd like to find something like this.  I really loved this table, but it really was too large for the space...don't you agree?
.................................................................................
Then 'they' said I needed a rug.  Well I had taken the rug out for cleaning, and actually, I kinda like the floors plain in the summer time.  Here's the rug:
So...not that I decorate based on 'others opinions', especially those who just don't 'understand' this kinda look!
BUT......sometimes, I do appreciate another opinion or input....
.What do you'll think?
Rate My Space...I can take it!
"Let the Sunshine In"
I had such a nice day!  My friend Shelley (from Sweetpea) came over today  for lunch.  I've known Shelley for many years, but this was the first time we just had time to sit and talk and, of course, I picked her very talented brain about a couple of things for my living room.  If you don't know Shelley, definitely head directly to her blog.  She is super duper talented, and I love all her stuff.
So, I finally got my white slipcovers this week....oh, so much  better than the black!  The coffee table is just a make-do brought in from the bedroom.  I sold my really large coffee table (Shelley about had a fit...oops, I knew I should have asked her if she wanted it!) cause it was too big too.  I'm going to cut the legs down from another table soon...but this actually looks pretty good for now!
We talked about fabrics and pillows, which ones to toss (out) and some ideas for ones to make!  I can't wait to get started!
Maybe you remember my post a while ago about the slipcover that I was going to make for my cozy chair?  Well, instead I sold my chair and bought this one from Shelley.  I just love it, and it is a much better size for the space.
I just love when the sun shines in!
Shelley  brought me these beautiful roses!  I love 'em.
Stay tuned for the next project involving this beautiful, vintage  overhead light!...Yea, right...
~ A Little Garden Tour~
Today has been one of those days where I just don't feel good...no energy..just blah.  I finally picked myself up to go water the garden around 1:30 pm.  I love to hand water...I love my garden hose!  It just is soothing to me.  So, I then decided to take a few pictures.  Enjoy....I did!
The bush in the background is a 'Yesterday, Today and Tonorrow'.  It has white, lavender and purple blooms all at the same time.  It is one of my very favorite plants.  I dug it up last year from my old house, and really had to nurture it.  They are extremely hard to transfer!  Next Spring it should be spectacular...much fuller.
This is a 'Spiderwort'...what a name!  It grows wild locally, so last Spring I dug up a couple a' bunches.
This is an 'English Dogwood' bush.  Again,  another transplant.  Obviously, Dogwood Trees don't grow here in Central Florida,  but the blooms are very similar.
Ahh, my lovely White Rose...not sure of the name, but it's one of those old fashioned, carefree roses...no fuss here!
These herbs made it through our unusually cold winter....Thyme, with an old rake head as a trellis, Lemon Balm, and some Chives.
Well, I hope you have enjoyed my little garden tour....I feel better now!
Blessings,
Susie
