Plan C?

Each year, just before Christmas, I am fortunate to be a part of a group of  twelve wonderful ladies and friends who gather together to celebrate the season.  We come from all over the State of  Florida, and each year the event is hosted by a different gal.  Our common denominator is our love of all things antique, primitive and country!  Of course, the hostess's home is ALL decked out for Christmas.  Oh, we just have the best time together.  We each bring our finest culinary delights and 11 gifts to share (all the same....well, with the exception that some of us are divided.....We're either a "white girl" or a "colored girl", so sometimes the gifts are separated!  The "white girls", of course, love all things white...and the "colored girls" like primitive, original paint with more color.  Needless to say, these are the very best gifts of the season.  We each take a turn passing out the presents, and all at the same time....open 'em up!  Sometimes, not everyone opens theirs, but waits to see what it is.....because the packaging and presentation are always almost as wonderful as the gift itself!

I have been pondering this year and racking my pea brain on what to do.  When I finally decided, I ordered the necessary ingredients...and waited, and waited......nothing in the mail!  Today was the final day...tomorrow is the "Big Event"!  (I'm not going to share my original idea...I'll post it later if the stuff ever comes).   Oh, I had plan "B" sort of, which was to make a cute pillow or sachet or something cool out of burlap since it's so 'hot' right now.  I had the stuff...but not the ambition to get out the sewing machine.  Sooo....last night I was blog hopping, praying for inspiration for plan "C" just in case the mailman was once again a disappointment today.  I found a really cute blog (http://blomsterverkstad.blogspot.com/) with a post for a bird feeder....alas....Plan C!  Could be done fairly quickly and I had most of the stuff...just sent hubby to the store for apples and cranberries.  Luckily, also I had found the cutest tea towels at Ikea a few weeks back for $.49 and purchased a dozen....so I also had a way to wrap the gifts......so here's the pics!

"For the Birds"
I always like to make edible ornaments for an outside tree for the birds this time of year!
~ Wire, Apple, Cranberries, Sweet Annie ~

Cello bags with a little shred in the bottom.  I have had these vintage bird cards for many years....perfect!

~ Tea towel gathered with ticking and a piece of greenery ~

~ All packed up...and ready to go ~

So I need to get some sleep....have to be up very early to meet up with the gals driving together....we've got about a 3 hour drive to be there by 11!

I'll post pics of the day this weekend....

  1. Hey Susie. I think your bird feeder is so cute and sweet. I think it looks precious the way you've wrapped it all up. You're obviously very creative to come up with it off the cuff like that. I can't wait to see pics and hear more about your giveaway. I'm a FL girl too. North-east FL - Jacksonville. Where are you? I'd love to know more about your group.
Best Christmas wishes to you and your family.
    Hugs...Tracy :)

  3. I'm impressed. To have to come up with a plan C at the last minute, and then to have to get 11 ready would be pretty intimidating to me. You did a great job. I'm sure everyone will be happy to get your gifts. We love feeding the birds too.
    Blessings,
    Marcia

  6. Thanks for your visit to hill country house! I love the concept of your get together. We used to be a part of a bigger group from all over Texas and Oklahoma, but it got complicated........and we haven't met in the last few years. Yours sure sounds like fun, especially the colored and white part! Loved your creativity coming up with Plan C!
