"MOSS"...A Short Story by Susie

I'm not really sure why I have a 'fascination' with moss, but I do know where it all began....Many years ago, I was taking 'herb' classes at the home of a wonderfully escentric older couple.  They had the most beautiful herb gardens and their home was so quaint and cozy.  Each week she taught on a different herb.  We had to smell and touch each herb and write in our journals 'what the herb was saying to us'!  The husband taught cooking, and was an expert in baking the most delicious french bread I have ever tasted which we ate along with a gourmet lunch....Oh, it was so much fun!  One day, while I was walking quitely through the gardens enjoying the wonderful sights and fragrances of the herbs, I came upon the most beautiful pot of herbs with this green moss surrounding the base of the plants. I had never seen it before, but it was love at first sight.  I promptly asked her "where can I get some of that moss?"  She looked at me straight in the eye and said "you just have to steal it". Needless to say, when I left that day, I had my very own clump of moss!

Imagine my joy (fast forward about 15 years), when I was walking around at my friends property and spotted mounds of that same lovely green moss growing happily all over the yard....Well, I won't go into details, but....once again...I have moss!

I love moss too! Wish it wasn't so hot and dry here in Texas so I could grow some! Lisa
