Living With White - Edited....

As I was looking at my previous post featuring my 'white' living room, I noticed that the pictures were dull and yellowy.  I realized the reason was that all my curtains and shutters were closed.  The windows face west, and we have to keep the blinds and shutters closed to avoid extremely hot sun.  It's hard enough to keep the house cool in our 90 degree weather.

So, this morning I opened the curtains, blinds and shutters and took more pictures.....
Much better!

Big difference, huh?  Sometimes it takes me a while to 'get it'!

I love having all curtains open....this is a nice, bright living room!

This is an antique folk art wall basket which I have added vines, a hornet's nest and feather.

Well, I'm always learning.  Maybe I should start hinting for a fancier camera for my birthday in October....and a few photography classes?

Have a wonderful weekend!

Blessings,
Susie

  1. Hey, you're "talking to" another one hear, who could use a better camera, AND photography classes! So, does it make you fell better that you're not alone, or worse that you are in such "fine" company, lol!

And, yes, it does make quite a difference. No more yellow tinge, yay!

  4. It certainly does look prettier and brighter with the natural light coming in through the windows! And when I was fortunate enough to have a personal tour of your home it was even prettier in person! I love your style and how you have arranged all your lovely treasures...just perfect! Hope you have a great weekend! :)

  5. Oh susie.....I always love looking at photos of your home. Just can't get enough of this style with all the chippy paint andarchitectural pieces:-)

Can I ask if your couches are from Ikea? I really want new furniture, but just not sure about the white slipcovers with my family. Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks and enjoy your weekend,
    Kathleen

  11. I love your home....yellowed pics or not! Although I agree it looks brighter with the curtains open. I adore that folk art basket and it's content. Lovely composition!
I am still learning too. It's not always easy to get the perfect picture, but you are doing just fine.

  15. I thought the first pictures were great, but it really did make a huge difference to open it all up. What a bright, beautiful home! I have so much dark furniture, and I've been trying to come up with ways to lighten/brighten it w/o painting everything, because my husband loves the natural oak and dark woods. *Sigh* I'll have to settle for bits of white here and there, and I'll just come here to get my "white" fix! :)

  16. I always love using as much light as possible when taking photos. Parts of our home is bright but not the kitchen except for the morning. I have to say it's pretty special to wake up to except that it makes me notice the dust more...ugh.

I love your house with or without the blinds open. It's all that cool stuff that has me breathless.

    stay cool down there,

    Carole
