I'll be setting up to sell at 'When Pigs Fly'.

The gals are letting me peddle my wares on the lawn (well pine bark).

Shut The Barn Door (and a good idea)

This post has nothing to do with this barn door, but the picture of my real reason for posting isn't too charming...just a good idea.

Oh, and I really don't use that expression!

Last week as my husband and I were packing stuff up for an antique show, he automatically grabbed newspaper to wrap with. Oh nooooo, I hate using newspaper. I don't like the feel and the newsprint often rubs off on the item or my hands.

Now I'm all for recycling, so our newspaper has a place to go.

Back to my story.

I did have some tissue paper, but that can get a bit pricey when using a lot (and I hoard the pretty stuff).

Well, it was then that I had a light bulb moment.....

old wrapping paper!

I think we all have paper that we once used, don't like any more, etc. and it just sits around collecting dust.

Point in case.....this paper my son wanted to use last Christmas. He still doesn't get it that the paper needs to match the decor?!

It works great for wrapping (I would have reversed it and had the white show), but I didn't want to even go there with Michael.

Also, for those of us who ship packages, this makes great stuffing, and even great to wrap an ugly box.

You can also find wrapping paper (especially Christmas) at just about every thrift store.....cheap!

I also buy wallpaper at the thrift store to wrap with....it's nice and sturdy.

Now why didn't I think of this sooner, or before I donated all those rolls of paper collected through the years?

My friend, Steve and I stopped by last week and the 'worker's said that Dawn and Abby had gone out for pizza. "Oh well, they won't mind if we take a ~~walk through~~ peak?

We even went so far as to ~~stalk~~ find them and crash their lunch.

It was a great reunion!

And they treated us for pizza! Just an example of the true graciousness of these gals!

The Promise I Just Couldn't Keep

A few months or so ago, I promised my husband that I wouldn't ask to move any furniture or cupboards around for a long, long time.

I lied!

I just can't help myself.....but this time he was really tracking with me. Hurray...so we worked hard yesterday. I love that man.

This cupboard was moved into the Living Room from my studio...

I wanted a 'wintery' look, so I remembered this oil painting I had stashed away and 'tweeked' it a bit (rubbed some stain here and there and scratched it up a bit...still not in love with it...but better).

Winter in Florida....that's funny.

Is it just me, or does that 'red' book stand out like a sore thumb?

This cupboard was moved to the bedroom from my studio. Ahh....lots of needed storage!

(We sold the cupboard that was here before)

This week, I plan to make a new bed skirt from the striped french ticking that's on the pillow on my bed.

I found the cotton cable knit throw at the Goodwill ($2.99 less 10% senior discount!).

Perfect color!

Natural White Christmas

Mine is a simple Christmas this year.

Lots of fresh greenery, some purchased and other greenery is from the woods (well, not really deep woods....I was able to gather fresh pine from a friend's home in St. Augustine, and cedar and arborvitae are from local bushes).

We purchased a smaller tree this year as it was ~~cheap~~ inexpensive.

We put it in a vintage Dutch tulip gathering basket to add a little height.

The decorations are simple....wild grapevine for garland, local pine cones, white berry wreaths and light green hydrangeas.

A folk art Garden Angel adorns the top. She is the design of famed folk artist, Mason.

These antique linens sacks were going to be stockings...oh well, next year?

White hyacinth bulbs...just recently planted.

Paperwhites, wheat grass, ~~don't know what it is~~ green and white plant, live moss and dusty miller under the cloche in a vintage galvanized basin as centerpiece for our farm table.

I recently found this awesome antique cast iron tree stand..original white paint, of course.

This year; however, it serves as a candle base!

Over The River and Through The Woods...

One of my must-do things this time of year is to go pickin' for my Christmas greenery. I have my route figured out, my favorite spots have been scouted, and I hop in the pick-up and off I go.

Today, I even managed pick a few trash piles!

Old metal step ladder...white, chippy and rusty!

I love this willowy pine(?). How about these tiny pinecones?

White drawer (I had to leave the workbench behind) with arborvitae and check out the purple berries. These berries will not dry...but their color is so striking, I had to pick 'em.

Pepperberries grow prolifically here in Florida, and the berries turn a lovely shade of red the first of December...just in time for decorating! I'm always jealous of those who have bittersweet readily available in the Fall, but here we have pepperberries. I have listed a few bunches for sale in my Etsy Shop.

And lastly, this rusty old thing.....perhaps a plant stand?

Living Room

I have been trying so hard to get my home in order.

Finally, today...I feel like I can show my living room with a few new items.

How fun is this rug?

Another Craigslist find!

It was never even used..

It's a really nice wool rug and I paid about 1/5 of the purchase price.

When I tire of it (which I'm sure I will), I should have no problem selling it....maybe even at a profit!

I've had the fabric to make the pillows for the longest time.

About 3 hours...and the pillows were done. Why did I wait so long?

If you saw my previous post, this pic was taken before I found the leather recliner.

When I found this quilt on Ebay, I knew it was 'the one'.

It is from Pottery Barn a year or so back....I don't remember it, do you?

Soft blue background with the deeper tans and browns, the botanicals, birds and butterflies

Just perfect!

I had the hardest time trying to capture the colors in the quilt in my pics?

Here's a better shot:

I've been debating whether I should paint the bed a creamy white or not, especially after looking at the pics. The cannon ball posts seem to stick out like a sore thumb.

What do you think?

And lastly, my wonderful Grandson...whose
'room' I've taken over. He likes it though.

It feels good to finally have a project complete....well, I'm sure I'll still tweek a thing or two.

Things Are A Changin' Around The House

(Notice, I finally painted the french doors white...much better)

And these French chairs.

I love this style....but just wasn't quite right.

So I'm sticking with the antique plank bottom chairs.

We moved my fav old shutters from the studio to the dining room...

I took a few pics late this afternoon to determine the best light for getting a good shot. I need to experiment with lighting.

I'm real pleased with the shutters as it sets off the dining room from the living room, rather than having all 3 large windows with the same linen curtains. I just added the panels from the dr to the lr to make them a little fuller.

Well hopefully I'll finish my tweeking of the two rooms for a post later in the week.

That's my goal anyway.

Today is my 57th birthday....trying to wrap my head around this.

I can't help but reflect on 56....what a year! Let's see:

Ovarian Cancer

Hysterectomy

3 Extensive rounds of chemotherapy

Lost My Hair....actually it was kinda fun to be bald

Tired and fatigued

Neuropathy pain intensified by chemo

-constant burning, tingling, numbness in feet & shooting pains like a knife

-difficulty walking

Chemo Brain...yes it's a real thing!

Skin Cancer

Symptoms of Agoraphobia

I don't think I'm feeling sorry for myself today....just wanted to lay it all out.

I have many blessings in my life:

My Faith

A loving and helpful husband

My son and grandson

A few good friends

Yes, I am feeling a little melancholy right now as I reflect on my life. I'm missing my parents today....they were wonderful and provided a functional home for my sister, brother and myself.

I'll be okay, God is on my side.

I'm going to seek His guidance and learn to hear His voice.

I will be still, listen and learn from the Master.

A Couple'a Chalkboard Projects

I've been admiring this picture while cruising Pinterest.

Have you seen it?

I'm pretty sure it's a Pottery Barn ad.

I've been lovin' that pan with the chalkboard paint...too cool!

So....here's my version...

I found this 20" round pan at the thrift store for $9.00

A few coats of chalkboard paint....

Ta Da

I'm still going to keep searching for an oval pan, but I think this will do nicely in the meantime!

So, I also finished another chalkboard project which I thought of a while back. I haven't seen this around...so I possibly may have a new idea here!

A clipboard from the thrift store (usually under $1)

Simply tape off the 'clip part' and coat with chalkboard paint

I then tie on a piece of chalk with jute

Then I make an 'eraser' by stuffing a piece of ticking with polyfill and attach with jute also.

Sometimes I Shouldn't Listen To Myself

I have often passed by a little Thrift Shop just up the road. I'll think to myself,
"I should check it out"....but for some reason I tell myself, "na.....there's probably nothing good, just baby stuff".

I noticed a 50% sale as I passed by this weekend, but myself said...."don't even waste your time."

This morning I was passing by and saw an old table sitting outside. Well this time I didn't listen to myself and stopped. Oh my.....it's an old farm table (heart is going pitter patter).

Door is locked....nobody's there....PANIC!

Walked around to flower shop on other side....she gave me a number to call, which I immediately did and left a message.

I reluctantly drove home, leaving 'my table' behind.

When I get home, my phone rang....
"Yes" the table is for sale, it's $25....you can pick it up and leave cash with flower lady".

I couldn't move fast enough (well, actually, I sent my son).

"Thank You Lord"....I'm a happy gal!

Now to learn when to listen to myself.....

I Won, I Won a Wonderful Giveaway

I was so excited when I learned I had won! Yeahhhhh

I had so much fun shopping, but it was so hard to choose amongst the many things on my (want list). It took me a few days, so here's what I decided on. I am very happy with my choices.

I'm redecorating my guest room and this neat bucket with vintage style and a bird, is just perfect in the room. I'm showing a few pics.....when I get the entire room finished, I debut it in a post!

Here's the bedding I'm working with. It is a pattern from Pottery Barn a few years back. I found it on Ebay and immediately knew it was perfect!

I've used vintage french ticking to enclose this screen-less cupboard. It adds interest, function and texture.

I'm making linen curtains which are just about finished, and need a little more tweeking here and there.

I'm also trying to decide if I want to paint the antique bed white (I think this would be a good place to try Annie Sloan Chalk Paint).

The next item I decided on is this great galvanized shelf with hooks.....check out the vintage appeal!

This is perfect for my bathroom (also under construction) as I'm using galvanized accessories. I'm also going to attempt to paint the countertop as I was inspired by Laura from 52 Flea. Check out her post

Here, I removed the glass globe and attached a vintage light cage with an Edison style bulb.

More to come on the bathroom....just searching for the right shower curtain and rug.

Michael's Pickin's

My husband, hereinafter called 'Michael' works with his family in their truck parts business. They have a HUGE junkyard. I got to thinkin' the other day, "surely there's some neat stuff out there...some cool junk....gears, rusty metal pieces, interesting truck pieces and parts, etc."

"Don't you ever see neat old stuff that I would like?" I asked. So tonight...he brought me presents....rusty, crusty old presents! He did good!

This guy is big and heavy.

Fun Afternoon At Ikea

I bought a chair on Craigslist, and the seller suggested we meet at Ikea Saturday afternoon.

"Sounds great to me", I said.

My husband said he would go with me.

"Yipee", I thought.

We had fun, and I found a couple'a neat items that I thought I would share!

First is this great looking pillow cover. The fabric content is 100% ramie, which has a wonderful rustic appeal...very similar to an old grain sack. It's a nice, generous size...36", and the insert stripe fabric is sewn in. Best thing......$13!

The next 'find' is a pendant light. I've been looking for lighting for my guest room which I am working on...not sure what I really wanted. We found this pendant light with a metal drum shade on sale from $69 to $19. I think I will cover the shade with burlap or a slubby linen. It's a nice large size, and I'm sure it will look perfect! It's only available at stores as well.

I also found some great looking glasses. I like all my glassware to match, and somehow my last set has all but disappeared, leaving mismatched assorted ones (where do these odd glasses come from anyway?)

They are a nice thicker glass which I've learned works best in our household. I love the shape and style. There are 'rings' around the bottom...kinda hard to see in the pics.

Robins Egg Blue

When I decided to redecorate the guest room, I was certain that 'robins egg blue' was the perfect accent color. Am I the only one to change my mind? Don't get me wrong, I love, love, love this color.....but it's just not where I want to go at this time!

How Do I Measure Up?

I don't know about you, but I can never seem to find my measuring tape when I need it. I had 2, but they always seem to hide when I'm working on a project. I've tried wearing one around my neck....but sure enough....it will sneak away.

But today, thanks to a quick stop at the thrift store, I shall never be at a loss for measuring again! I found measuring tapes....lots of measuring tapes. I shall put one in every drawer, in every room, in my car, in my purse and every nook and crannie I can think of!

Sometimes it just doesn't take much to make me happy! What has made you happy today?

Saying Goodbye To My Red, White & Blue

I'm redecorating my guest room/Grandson's room, and I'm hoping to sell the antique cannonball, 3/4 rope bed. I've had this bed over 25 years....it was my son's first 'big boy' bed. It's seen many different bedding combinations from cars and Sponge Bob, but I think the current one is my favorite. I was going for the Ralph Lauren layered bedding which he does so brilliantly. (I never did finish the curtains...oh well!) So now it's time for a change. I have the ensemble listed on Craigslist, but no response so far. I just think this would be perfect for another sweet little boy!

I just recently found these wonderful Ikea curtain panels at the thrift store. The cotton fabric has an amazing weight and feel.

My collection of vintage flags....I will keep these!

I painted this back in the day.......not sure why I don't paint any more?

So, as I say good-bye to an old friend, I am ready for the change.

23 Weeks Just Wasn't Enough Time

My Grandson, Jacob, was born prematurely today at 11:22 am.

He weighed 1 lb. 3 oz.

He went home to be with our Heavenly Father at 1:07 pm.

I thank God for His peace and comfort.

French Garden Cloche Chandelier

A couple of years ago, Ballard Designs featured a chandelier which was fashioned from an antique cloche from France. For me, it was love at first sight; however, we had just moved into our home and a new light fixture was low on the list of things we needed. Periodically, I would visit the Ballard website to visit the chandelier. It sold out very quickly, and they were never to stock it again.

When we learned that we were going to be able to stay in our home, one of the things I immediatelty wanted to do was replace the ugly 'old school' glass cover light above my dining table. Well, I just happened to be messing around on Ebay, and guess what I found? Yep....it was new in the box and much less that the original price. So.....ta da...here it is!

The finish has a crackled effect and the glass is 'seeded". I am very pleased....it looks antique!

House Color - Need Help Please

It's such a relief to know that we can stay in our home. But, of course, now I'm wanting to do all the projects that have been 'on hold' while we were 'in limbo' .

I really want to paint the house. It's really a drab beige. We did paint the brick shutters white which really helped.

So now......What Color?

I really want to keep a 'cottage' appeal.

What Is This? And Some Good News

HAIR!.....I have hair!

Not quite an inch, but it's growing.

I'm tired of hats....won't be long now!

It's grey....oh well! That can be fixed!

NOW FOR THE GOOD NEWS.....

IT'S GONE!
THEY TOOK IT AWAY!

Last Spring we were told that the house we're renting would be selling. Well we waited and waited...no one even looked at the house for a long time until a couple viewed it (when I was really sick with the chemo). They were looking to buy it as an investment and asked if we would want to stay. Of course, I said "yes"....but nothing happened.

I couldn't even imagine having to move...so I prayed and prayed that it would work out! It was a long wait, filled with a lota "what ifs".

God is Good.

The closing just took place and the owners want us to stay., They are a wonderful couple and offered us a great rental price too!

Whew....BIG relief.

So now I'm making my list of things to do around the house...hubby beware!

Colorful Weekend Finds

I haven't had much to blog about lately, so I thought I would show some of the fun things I found this weekend. I had just about stopped going to garage and estate sales, but I happened on a couplea' good estate sales. Even on the last day, at the end of the sale, I still found fun things!

Final Surgery In Twilight Mode

Tomorrow morning at 6:30 I will be at the hospital to have my "port" removed. It's like the final part of the cancer will be just a memory. I'm feeling a bit anxious this afternoon, but it's gonna be okay. Basically the surgery is simple and they will only be putting me in "Twilight" mode....hummm...sounds good!

One person.....one......who saw my ad came to my sale. She was so sweet and excited.....said she could hardly sleep last night! Thanks Dana.....A Kindred Spirit, and what an adorable and helpful husband too!

I would have thought I'd hit the jackpot!.

Oh well.....a few people stopped because they saw my signs.

I had fun and met a couple of new friends, any how!

It's Just Perfect!

I have been wanting a nice dutch oven for quite a while. I have searched the net, Craigslist (ha) and constantly check and often bid on Ebay, but the price is just too high for me. They are just so expensive!

My dream.......... the Le Creuset Enamel Dutch Oven.....white, of course!

So I was checking out the garage/estate sales this morning on CL and found an estate sale which listed Le Creuset cookware. I threw on some clothes, scraped up some cash and headed out the door.

I think my heart stopped when I walked into the kitchen and saw it......"It;s mine" (I think I said it outloud).

There were actually 3 in various sizes, but I decided on the largest round one.

Did I mention that all sales were 25% off today?

I'm so happy!

Isn't it grand?

(Tomorrow everything is 50% off....hummmm!)

White Wednesday

I'm linking up this post with Faded Charm hosted by Kathleen. Looks like she's been moving things around.....well I'm right there with ya Katheen! Today I redid the shelf that is between my kitchen and dining room, and a small wall in the dining room.

It's a tricky space as there is a partial wall from the ceiling, the floor changes from the kitchen to the dining room, and the kitchen peninsula is also right there.

I love this old chipipy white stool, and finally covered the top today with a remnant from a grain sack.

Love the patch work.

I know the hanging ironstone platters are not a new design, but I'm really pleased with the look....at least for a while! These are all crackled and wonderfully stained.

(looks like the middle one is a little crooked)

This old concrete chicken is one of my favorite things with layers and layers of old white paint....perhaps the theme for Easter?

I love these eggs. They are real and the natural colors. I found them on Ebay!

So tomorrow I just have to clean off the dining room table which is a big mess (everything I moved is on the table right now).....I need more room!

White Wednesday ~ New Whites

This past weekend, my hubby and I went to Renniger's antique show. We had a really good time, and I surprised us both and was able to stay about 3 hours. I guess that adreline kicked in and gave me some extra 'umph'!

Here are a few of my finds:

Wonderful antique grainsack.

I love all the patch work!

We stopped at an estate sale on the way home where I dug up this big ole' ironstone piece.

It has a small crack...but I don't care!

I have a 'thing' for little white stools, and of course, I couldn't resist the balls of vintage thread!

The letters "JUNK" were used on church bulletin boards. (Letters A-Z are for sale in my Etsy Shop....mention my blog and I'll discount any item 10%)

More ironstone with that aged patina that I love!

Oh, I just love this guy!

Lastly, this antique carrier with lots of chippy, creamy white paint.

I couldn't believe that no one had snatched this beauty up as it was only $9.

"The Little Things"

Yesterday, my hubby and I went antiquing (something we've not done together in a long time). We came across a warehouse sale filled with all kinda stuff. While I was still in the first little area, my husband had already gone through the building and determined that there was 'nothing there'. In his defense, he does prefer to find primitive furniture. It was obvious that the place had been picked over, as there were sold stickers on any furniture worth having.

But I had another plan:

True, I didn't hit the mother lode, but I found some fun stuff.

Neat old frames, vintage basket, old bottles

Old Florida turpentine pot, clam shell, ironstone plate

Old drawers (I got about 6 of 'em)

Silver with great patina, lone crock lid (perfect candle holder)

This is my favorite find. It's a vintage French flan pan. Check out the heart shaped handles.

This was kinda interesting. It's an "Official Copy" of the drawing submitted by Henry Ford for patent in October, 1911. I got several of them....not sure what I'll do with them, but they had a nice industrial look with nicely aged paper!

How 'bout this old metal trash can?

I love the round crock...great for my camellias!

So, just a reminder:

It was hard to capture, but the mirrors reflect the plant and candle really nicely!

The Folk Art Garden Angel was made by "Mason", a well known artist in Tennessee.

I'm tired now.....real tired, but I feel like I've accomplished what I set out to do today!

I've really been wanting to simplify my life, including my decor. I think I get kinda' obsessive when I start collecting something. Like string.......I have too much, and it's here, there and everywhere. So, I filled up an antique metal pan and the rest will be sold.

I also started changing around a corner of the living room yesterday.... but today it was all wrong!

A while back I found the cutest little black stool for about $2 at a local thrift store, but it had a gold shag carpet on the top. Unfortunately, I didn't take before pics, but I think we can all imagine the shag carpet!

Another Craigslist Find

I have always wanted a cupola.

I found one.

It's still in my van cause it's way too heavy for me!

It's 41" high.

The roof is copper with wonderfully aged patina!

Not sure how I'm going to use it....most likely I'll put it on a pole like a birdhouse.

Just 'cause it's so pretty, I wanted to share my camellia bush which is just loaded with blooms.

I've had a good day so far.

I had a catscan this morning......anxiously waiting any news about the cancer.

I'm sure it's all gone.

February ~ Time For Love

February is a special month for my family. Beginning February 11 my son will turn 28, and then on February 13, my husband will be 58....they are 30 years apart! Then, of course, Valentines Day on the 14th, and ending with our 33rd wedding anniversary on the 26th.

~Your Advise Please~

I need some decorating advise from my fellow bloggers! I'm usually confident with my decorating decisions, but at this point, I'm confused. Maybe it's because I have had to sit here in my cozy chair for the last 4+ months recooperating, and have seen this scenerio way too much.

Okay, so I found this cupboard on Craigslist last summer. It's not too often that you find a cupboard which will house the big old tv's we have these days.

We haven't set it up for the tv yet (it's on another wall and it will take moving other furniture, and up until now, I haven't been able to 'inspire' the hubs to do it.) This is how it looks.

I asked my dear friend Shelley from Sweet Pea Home (sorry, the link option is not cooperating) what I should do with it in case I don't get it moved right away, and see suggested that I put fabric in the doors....I never thought of that! So this should be easy right? Not.....

So here's my first question:
Should I put burlap or linen in the doors?

I'm using it currently more for storage than display.

Use your imagination....they are just tacked in for now.

Question #2

When we do move the cupboard and put the tv in it, should I keep the doors on? Yes, it would hide the tv, but the open doors would also take up valuable wall space which is limited in the living room.

Here's the wall we will put it on, and the hanging shelf and bench will go on to the wall where the cupboard is now. Are you confused yet?

My ~~cancer~~ recent illness has slowed me down a bit, but I've still managed to do a bit of decorating (inch by inch). Just wanted to share a few pics:

I love the fresh cedar garland which my husband brought home with the tree. He's a good guy!

I purchased the fresh bay leaf wreaths on Etsy. Several friends will be receiving these as gifts this season! I added the bird...

Picked lots of these tiniest tangerines from a friend's tree....They are so cute, but much to sour to eat!

Only planted one batch of paperwhites also!

Aren't these the cuttest little iced gingerbread star cookies? They are only about 1 1/2" in diameter. I found them at Aldi's Supermarket!

A New Style ~ Got Any Hats?

So, I have lost my hair, but here's the good news:

~I'll save $ on haircuts, color, shampoo, etc.
~Faster showers
~Less time to get dressed
~It feels funny

People tell me my head has a nice shape, and my ears are nice too
I'm believing it will grow back thick and curly

But, in the meantime, got any extra hats?

Cancer Update

Thanks to everyone who has offered strength and encourgement as I deal with Ovarian Cancer. I'm in the hospital for my second round of chemo. I got really sick after my first round, and ended up back in the hospital for 4 days. This time, I will have a home care nurse checking up on me and make sure I stay hydrated.

This is definitely putting a damper on my holiday plans, but I'm just going to do things a little 'smaller' this year.....there'll be plenty more to go all out!

In the meantime, I have my lap top with me and am totally enjoying everyone's plans for the holidays unfold.

Thanks everyone for your birthday well wishes. I've had an okay day, but definitely feeling better than yesterday. My Son didn't bring over my Grandson, so I had 7 comments and asked my Husband to pick a number between 1 and 7. He picked...........#5.

I Have A Birthday Present From Me to You!

I''ve always enjoyed giving presents, and so on my own birthday, it's no exception. Yep...I'm 56 today! It's certainly not going to be a momumental day....still feeling exhausted from the chemo and not bouncing back as I had hoped.
So I dediced that I'm going to give away a $50 gift certificate for any item in my Etsy Shop. I actually just went in and reactivated a lot of stuff.

Just leave a comment or just say "hey"and this evening when my Grandson comes over, we'll put names in a basket, and let him draw one! Just check back tonight or tomorrow am and email me your address and we'll get 'er done!

So Glad To Be Home

Just a quick update on my week. I was able to come home from the hospital last night after my fifth day of chemotherapy. I had NO side effects and tolerated all well...thank GOD! I am thankful for my family and friends who have been supporting me so graciously!

It feels GREAT to be home....the best! Now I just have to pace myself this week and try not to do too much....but there's pillows to be be made and stuff to fluff!

When Live Throws You Curves....Ya Gotta Learn To Swerve

So I guess today, I'm swerving. Well at least my head is spinning. Two weeks ago I had a hysterectomy, where I had a 15 lb. tumor removed from my right ovary. We met with my Doctor today, and she is definitely recommending 3 rounds of chemo as there were definitely signs of stage 1 cancer. The chemo will be done in the hospital for 4 days every 21 days. They will install a port to administer the three types of chemo. Bummer!

I don't want to bring anyone down and please don't feel sorry for me. I have faith and know that God will bring me through this time.....it's just that right now I'm kinda numb, ya know?

They say the hospital has Wi-Fi so at least I can have ny laptop with me, and maybe even finish my rug hooking project that I started years ago.....That's a good thing.

I had purchased the bittersweet vine on Etsy a couple'a weeks ago. This is the only 'orange' that will be in my Fall decor this year. The crow is vintage paper mache'...my fav!

I love this Audubon print of the crow. I don't do 'halloween', but I do love crows!

My collection of pumpkin stems under an old glass dome. The base is a neat piece of hypertufa.

Just gotta get me some more white pumpkins....hope I can find 'em easily this year!

Susie's Composting 101 - Project Genesis

I'm hooking up with Suzan at Old Grey Mare for Project Genesis. If you haven't already, head on over and take some time to read about it. Suzan is an amazing advocate for keeping our planet healthy, has a wealth of information and if she doesn't inspire you....nothing will! I know I have a long way to go to live as 'Green' as I would like....it's a process. It makes us do things we aren't 'used' to. Change is good, and there's so many 'simple and easy' things we can all do.

One thing that I am totally sold on is "Composting". I can remember searching for information about composting. There's entire books about the subject:

If I have one gardening book, I have 25 and most of them have information about composting.

I have a folder with magazine articles about composting, and how to build a 'fancy' way to keep it intact!

"Composting: Make It or Buy It?"

"How to Bake Compost"

"Layering Green and Brown"

"Ratios"

"Build Your Perfect Compost Bin"

Well, I say "phooey" on all that....it's just way to complicated for my simple little country mind!

So, here's "Composting Susie's Way":

1. Know what to compost (now you may want to read up on this a bit, but here's the condensed version)

~Brown materials: leaves, branches, wood chips, straw - These add carbon

~Green materials: grass clippings, discarded plants, well rotted manure (personally I don't have any of this laying around), kitchen scraps (no meat or bones) - These add nitrogen

2. Now don't get me wrong, I would love to have a fancy bin.....but I just find an outta the way place (easily accessible and not too far from the kitchen) and get started:

Here's My Compost Pile (not so pretty, but effective)

2. The books will give you complicated measurements for layering. Here's what I say:

~Start out with some brown stuff, add some green
~Throw on kitchen scraps, brown and green whenever you have 'em

3. Get ya a good pitch fork and turn it when you feel like it (if I throw in a lotta kitchen scraps, I usually dig 'em in a bit).

4. Water it now and then

5. Wait a little bit, and before you know it, you'll have the most wonderful 'dark, garden gold' and it doesn't cost a penny!

Could it be any easier?

I don't know about you, but composting makes me feel good!

Now go dig them salad scraps outta the garbage and feed your compost pile!

Several years back, my husband and I were antiquing in Tennessee and stopped by our favorite shop in Bell Buckle, Phillips General Store. If you ever have the opportunity to go there, I guarantee you won't be disappointed. Anyway, the first thing I saw when I entered was this sign. I think my heart skipped a beat or two. I gotta have it, I thought. You see, I collect antique signs, love gardening and all things floral....and....my Grandfather's name was 'Winfield'. We also gave our son the middle name of Winfield to honor my Grandfather!

Legs or No Legs?

I've decided to bring my latest CL find in to house the television. It's not often that you find an old cupboard that will fit a large tv.

The current tv cupboard is great (I got it from Shelley, Sweet Pea Home), but an enclosed cupboard will be the best thing. And, I already have a new place in mind for the current one..

So here's my question.....The 'legs' on the cupboard are in pretty bad shape and completely uneven. So should I just try to 'even' out the legs or just cut them off completely? Is there any advantage to having legs if height is not an issue? It would be one less place for those dreaded 'dust balls' to hide without legs!

For example, this cupboard has about 2" legs......

These are both Southern pieces, and my guess would be that they had legs to protect the cupboard from water damage. Back in the day, women would just toss a bucket of water on the floor and mop it up. You'll see water marks on a lot of old farm tables!

So now, if I bring in this cupboard.......

Somebody pinch me! I just happened to take a quick look this afternoon on Craigslist and saw a 'primitive cupboard' for sale.

I immediately sent an email with my number. He called a few minutes later. He said, "now you saw the picture right?......It's pretty rough and needs a little work". I said "yea, I'd like to come by and look at it".

"I'll probably just use it in my carport for garden junk", I said.

Be still my heart!!!

These things just don't happen to me!

But lately, I guess I've been in the right place at the right time.....

Found this neat old door at the thrift store. "How much", I asked. "Hummm......how about $7.45", he said.

"I guess I'll take it"!

Sorry, couldn't get a good pic for some reason.

The 'window' in the door unlatches at the top and folds down! I've never seen a door like this before!

How cute is that?

Picked up this loot over the weekend!

Neat old crate, white chippy frame, white wire bicycle basket ($1.00), corbel, and an old white stoneware bowl ($2.00). The awesome 'tackle box' was purchased on Etsy at Finders 4 Keepers and had just arrived in the mail!

Also, check out this cute wrapping/craft paper from the Dollar Tree. It's like brown craft paper with a washed white floral...... (I bought a bunch)

Oh, and faux moss rocks, cotton flour sack towels, little bird and some nice fragrance oils!

My New Time Frame.......With A Little Help From A Friend!

I had lunch this week with my friend Shelley, Sweet Pea Home, and afterwards we came back to my home to visit some more. Now you see, talented friends are a great way to get a 'free' design consult! I had found this awesome old frame a few weeks back, but I was stumped with what to do with it. Shelley suggested that I simply hang it on the wall and do a collage with my clock faces. So, that evening I hung the frame, but couldn't quite get the faces arranged to look good (I was working with 3 larger faces; 2 square and 1 round). As I pondered, I remembered a recent magazine article where several faces were hanging from chain that had intrigued me. Ta Da..........

She also helped me with another frame and mirror here:

I had these 3 mirrors scattered here and there (pics aren't that good..... it's very sunny this morning as I'm shooting). She said they definitely need to be together. The frames on these are metal with great old chippy white paint and beveled mirrors.

I still need to hang em' high(er), but need to wire one of them. Then I can put together some accessories! Hey Shelley, can you come over again soon?

Look What I Found On Craigslist!

I check out Craigslist pretty often, and have used this avenue to sell some things as well. So Friday morning I was helping a friend list a few things and saw this post ...simply written "Vintage Built-Ins", and the location was right around the corner. Oh my....look what I have now! The owner had just purchased the cutest little 1920's bungalow and salvaged these cupboards from the kitchen with great care to keep all in tact! He's going "more modern".....I think he's nuts!

This cupboard is 8 feet tall...with layers upon layers of white paint with the exception of the inset bottom doors are a light aqua

Beadboard doors and lots of shelves.

They called this piece a 'spice rack'

In addition, there's an extra door that was for the built in ironing closet!

You don't even want to know how ~~little~~ much I paid!

Today, I'm blessed....

~And...my neighbor gave me this rusty lamp stand~

It's been a good weekend.....How about yours?

Never Met A White Chair I Didn't Love

I'm a little nuts over white chairs...I can't resist 'em!

This is my most recent find....an dimunitive doll chair. It is hand crafted and has many, many layers of old white paint. The date '1895' is penciled in on the bottom!

These are 2 antique child's chairs that are usually in the living room at my coffee table; however, I got a little too zealous this Spring and sold my coffee table (my husband still reminds me how much he loved that table). They have been perfect for my grandson and visiting children to sit at and snack, color and play at the table. I NEED A NEW COFFEE TABLE!

In the Dining Room.....I have four of these awesome chairs. They are solid and sturdy!

In the corner for additional seating..

The Bedroom Chair (I had to remove 3 purses, 2 straw hats and assorted clothing to take this pic...they are now on the bed....)

Lastly, a few white garden chairs...

"Old chairs don't die, they just go to the garden"

This will be covered soon with white cypress vine

When they totally fall apart I use the wood for other projects. I have a neat idea for this stack....will post soon!
